Joost Lijbaart & Kika Sprangers

Joost Lijbaart / Kika Sprangers

Drummer Joost Lijbaart and saxophonist Kika Sprangers enter into a dialogue in this new duo in which boundaries are explored and pushed back to what is possible in this line-up.

With tuned percussion, gongs, percussion from Africa and Asia and various ethnic instruments, the duo becomes a mini orchestra with many sound possibilities in which Sprangers’ melodies merge with the freely improvised soundscapes and delicate rhythms of Lijbaart.

Joost Lijbaart – drums / percussion
Drummer and improviser Joost Lijbaart (1967) has toured the world with various groups for the past 30 years. His style is a blend between jazz and improvisational music, adding many percusive elements from African and Asian music traditions.

Kika Sprangers – saxophone
Saxophonist Kika Sprangers (1994) touches her audience with her lyrical, melodic playing and characteristic sound. Musically she not only expresses herself in her saxophone playing, but also in her own content and compelling compositions in which melancholy and generous harmonies, are combined with solid grooves, predominate.
